All Things Paper:
We're a bit overdue in celebrating Christmas in July, but the dog days of August are just as good a time to get a jump on holiday crafting. Luckily, British paper crafter Emily Dawe's brand new book for Search Press, Paper Christmas, was recently released on this side of the Pond and it's chock full of stylishly simple ways to do just that.
The book begins with an introduction followed by essential information about papers, materials and tools, techniques, and basic tips. The projects are divided into categories - Gift-Giving, Decorations, and Festive Fun. You'll be cutting, gluing, heat embossing, glittering, and humming Christmas carols in no time!
Many of the projects are ideal for beginners and most can be enjoyed by children. I suspect teachers, after school minders, and scout leaders will happily turn to Emily's ideas come autumn.

An urge to recycle or upcycle old materials might be one motivator for picking up this book from stylist and crafter Dawe, who admits that "nothing comes close to the enchanting and magical feeling you experience [at Christmas]." Her subtitle, though, is somewhat misleading: considering variations--like luggage and bunting gift tags--as well as alternative uses (e.g., turn a paper feather tag into a garland) means there are far more than 16 potential projects and outcomes here. Her concentration is on mastery: every pattern depends on good, step-by-step color photographs, which are all captioned simply. Of note are the rolled Christmas tree card, the folded book angels, and the advent houses. Sixteen pages of appended full-size templates encourage projects to be completed quickly. -Barbara Jacobs

Craft your Christmas with Paper Christmas: 16 Papercrafting Projects for the Festive Season by Emily Dawe. In her beautiful book Emily shows how to make fabulous handmade decorations. Celebrate the holidays with homemade cards, tags, wraps, stars, angels, snowflakes and much more. Her inspiring collection is made entirely with paper and embellished with everyday craft supplies like glue, glitter, scissors, twine, paint etc. Use your choice of paper - wrapping, origami, handmade, card, kraft, recycled or other. There are projects for varying abilities - from a simple paper snowflake, to an origami star, to a striking paper wreath. I love Emily's use of color. It isn't limited to red and green. She uses sparkly golds, blues and rich jewel tones. Her styling is very appealing and modern. 64 full-size templates are included - so no photocopier is needed to complete the projects. Make your Christmas extra special!
